01First impressions

Next to Chongde Road there's a cluster of Minnan-style courtyard houses and a Chinese-style garden - that's the Taichung Folklore Park. It connects directly with Rehe Park, and together they're bounded by Chongde Road, Rehe Road, Dalian Road, and Lushun Road. Within this neighborhood you'll find three schools: Wenxin Elementary School, Wenchang Elementary School, and Chongde Junior High School. For the MRT, head to the intersection of Wenxin Road Section 4 and Chongde Road Section 2 - Wenxin Chongde Station has only one exit, and it's themed around the CTBC Brothers baseball team.

02What works

For everyday convenience, this neighborhood ranks 2nd out of Taichung's 47 neighborhoods, and daily shopping also ranks 3rd. The MRT Green Line runs north to Beitun Main Station and south all the way to HSR Taichung Station; Sihwei Elementary School Station sits just outside the eastern edge of the neighborhood. At the end of 2012, Taichung Folklore Park tore down its perimeter walls and became an open park, and it has an underground parking lot. If you've got kids, Pingchang Village has Beitun Children's Park.

03Heads-up

Chongde Road is a major route connecting Fengyuan District and North District, with heavy traffic during rush hour - if you live along it, that traffic just becomes part of your daily life. In street view photos, this neighborhood ranks 40th for cleanliness and 37th for greenery, both toward the lower end among the 47 neighborhoods.

04A bit of history

The old place name for this area was Erfenpu, roughly covering today's Pinghe Village, Pingtian Village, and the area near Sihwei Elementary School; back then it was two shares of land allotted to two of the five Lai brothers of Wumeitang. In 1920, Beitun Village was established, and Erfenpu became one of the oaza (sub-districts) under it. In 1984, after the Zhongzheng and Dongshan land readjustment zones were completed, 1.6 hectares of land there was chosen to build Taichung Folklore Park, which opened its doors on the Lantern Festival of 1990. Chongde Junior High School and Wenchang Elementary School were both founded in 1988, with Wenxin Elementary School following four years later. On April 25, 2021, MRT Wenxin Chongde Station officially opened.

How are these measured?

Compared against the Taichung neighborhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
