A Songshan mix of homes and shops: banks line Nanjing East Road, and the lane markets are busiest by day
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
From Nanjing Sanmin Station, banks line both sides of Nanjing East Road Section 5, and Dongguang Village just north of the road is a mixed residential-commercial area. The liveliest spot during the day is around Wuchang Market and Lane 123 in the alleys, where residents do their grocery shopping, and there are plenty of food stalls and restaurants. On weekdays this is also where office workers gather for meals. As for green space in the residential alleys, there's Jixiang Park in Jixiang Village to the south, and Baoqing Park in Anping Village to the north.
For daily shopping, this neighborhood ranks 5th out of Taipei's 73 neighborhoods, and 7th for healthcare—most daily errands and minor ailments can be handled without leaving the area. Xisong Elementary School is on Sanmin Road, and all three villages—Dongguang, Jixiang, and Anping—fall within its school district. If you're looking for something different, the Taipei Puppetry Art Center on Civic Boulevard Section 5 is dedicated to puppet theatre and sits within Fusheng Village in this neighborhood; the centre has three exhibition areas covering glove puppetry, shadow puppetry and marionettes.
Greenery coverage ranks 68th out of 73 neighborhoods, nearly at the bottom; if you want green space, try Jixiang Park and Baoqing Park within the neighborhood. Street environment ranks 53rd, also somewhere in the lower-middle range. Head north to Jiankang Road and you're in Minsheng Community, where some schools and hospitals are actually located—Xisong Senior High School and the Songshan Branch of Tri-Service General Hospital are both outside this neighborhood, and so is Minsheng Elementary School.
This area's old place name was Dingdongshi. When Xisong Elementary School was founded in 1936, it was called Xisongshan Public School, and classes were first held in the side rooms of Songshan Ciyou Temple before the school moved to its current site the following year. Later, part of the school grounds was shared with Xisong Junior High School, and the elementary school only regained full use of the site after the junior high moved out in August 1996. In 1998, Lin Jingfu donated the puppet collection he had built up over decades. The city government later built the Taipei Puppetry Art Center on land the Core Pacific Group handed over to the city as part of its Core Pacific City development. The Songshan Line opened on November 15, 2014, and Nanjing Sanmin Station opened along with it.

Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.
How to read it: yellow = poor, blue = good; grey = not enough data
TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. Street environment scores use AI assessments of imagery; convenience scores use public facility data.
