01First impressions

West of the station are the residential blocks of Ebisu-nishi and Ebisu-minami, with the west exit on 1F. The east exit is on 3F, connecting to an air-conditioned moving walkway, the Skywalk, about 400 meters long. Follow it and you reach Yebisu Garden Place, built on the former site of a beer factory.

Ebisu 1-chome is mostly high-rise buildings, with half the households living on the 11th floor or higher. In 2-chome and 3-chome the share of detached houses is a bit higher, about 14% and 17% respectively.

02What works

The Yamanote Line, Saikyo Line, and Shonan-Shinjuku Line all stop at this station, and the next stop north on all of them is Shibuya. The Hibiya Line runs east through Roppongi and Kasumigaseki, and you can ride to Ginza without transferring.

For everyday shopping, this neighborhood ranks 66th out of 395 neighborhoods in Tokyo, ahead of its 87th ranking for overall convenience of living.

About an 8-minute walk from the station is the City-run Ebisu-minami Ichi Park. After a 2022 renovation, the park now has a play area where kids can find their own way to play; between January and March 2026, sawtooth oak and konara oak trees were planted and a shade structure was added.

03Heads-up

In 2020, this neighborhood had about 219 people per hectare. Based on our street photos, cleanliness ranks 298th out of 395 neighborhoods.

This area also has slopes; the top of Date-zaka slope is right at the Ebisu 2-chome intersection.

04A bit of history

In the Edo period, this area was still farmland sandwiched between the Shibuya River and the Mita Aqueduct. In 1890 the Nihon Bakushu Jozo Company launched Ebisu Beer, and in 1901 a freight station dedicated to shipping beer was built, taking its name from the beer brand.

It wasn't until 1928 that the town name "Ebisu-dori" first appeared. Names like Biiru-zaka slope and Biiru-bashi bridge still survive in the area today.

The factory moved to Chiba in 1988, and in 1994 the former site became Yebisu Garden Place.

05What's coming

Sapporo Real Estate Development, which operates Garden Place, is changing shareholders. The plan is to first hand over 51% of its shares to a foreign fund in June 2026, with the rest transferred in stages by June 2029.

The first step has already been completed: in Sapporo Holdings' August 2026 financial report, this company has been removed from the group's scope of consolidation. 30% of Garden Place is not included in the transfer.

How are these measured?

Compared against the Tokyo neighborhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
