A 115-meter community-hall tower by the station, with a cinema and a street piano inside
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
Coming out of the north exit of Funabori Station, right in front of you stands Tower Hall Funabori, 115 meters tall — Edogawa City's general-purpose citizens' hall. The building concept is "a ship the residents ride together," and inside there's the only cinema in Edogawa City, plus a street piano that each person can play for up to 10 minutes.
The cinema has two screens, and also provides booster seats for kids. The observation room, 103 meters up, gives a 360-degree view across Tokyo, and the observation elevator runs until 9:30pm.
Walking into the residential area, based on our street photos, cleanliness ranks 22nd and greenery ranks 27th — among the 395 neighborhoods in Tokyo, these are the two highest-ranked items for this neighborhood. Overall neighborhood environment ranks 33rd.
The Toei Shinjuku Line runs direct from Funabori to Shinjuku with no transfer; during the day it's Local only, about one every 6 minutes. Every station on the Toei Shinjuku Line within Edogawa City uses a goldfish as its station symbol, because goldfish are a local industry in Edogawa City. For Nishi-Kasai or Kasai Rinkai Park, there's a direct bus from right outside the station.
Public transit ranks 351st, the weakest item for this neighborhood; overall convenience of daily life ranks 301st. The Express does stop at Funabori, but starting in 2023 it no longer runs during the day — only a few trains remain, during weekday morning and evening rush hours and some weekend time slots.
Funabori sits in a zero-meter-above-sea-level zone. In 1971, the floodgate at Shinkawa malfunctioned, and water flooded into more than a hundred households. In 2020, this neighborhood had about 178 people per hectare.
The name Funabori comes from Shinkawa, a canal dug in 1629. This waterway was built to carry salt from the Gyotoku salt flats into Edo — "Funabori" means a waterway dug for boats to pass through.
In 1983, the Toei Shinjuku Line was extended here, and Funabori Station opened; at the time, it was the terminal station. In 1999, Tower Hall opened in front of the station.
A redevelopment of about 2.6 hectares in Funabori 4-chome saw its redevelopment association established in July 2025. Edogawa City's new City office building will be built here — the government building will be about 21 stories, and next to it there will be a separate 26-story private-sector building containing commercial space, housing, and a nursery.
The new City office building was originally targeted to open in January 2031; as of December 2025, the schedule has been pushed back to the first half of 2033. The reason is that a construction contractor has not yet been selected for the redevelopment building, so the construction start has been pushed back to 2029.

Hospitals with inpatient beds (2020 data), public elementary and junior high schools whose catchment covers this area, high schools and universities within 1 km, stations, parks of 1 ha or more, and large shopping malls and department stores. Many Tokyo junior high students attend private schools, so junior high catchments are only a guide.
Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.
How to read it: yellow = poor, blue = good; grey = not enough data
TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. Street environment scores use AI assessments of imagery; convenience scores use public facility data.
