01First impressions

Walk south from Keio-tamagawa Station and you're up on the Tamagawa embankment. Southwest of the elevated station is the Keiokaku velodrome, and to the east is the Kadokawa Daiei Studio, which has been shooting films here since 1933.

East of the station is Sakura-zutsumi-dori, lined with cherry trees for about 0.8 km within the neighborhood. The Chofu fireworks display is held on the Tamagawa riverbed outside the neighborhood; in 2025 more than 320,000 people came to watch, and one of the paid seating areas is actually called the Keio-tamagawa venue. When there's a fireworks display or a velodrome race day, the temporary ticket gate on the south side of the station also opens.

Since the 2000s, quite a few buildings have gone up around the station. In 2020, about 16,000 people lived in this neighborhood, at a density of about 140 people per hectare. Children under 15 make up about 14%, and owner-occupied homes account for over half, both higher than the Chofu City average.

02What works

From our street photos, cleanliness ranks 68th out of 395 neighborhoods in Tokyo, the strongest ranking for this neighborhood. This station is served by Semi Express, Rapid, and Local trains. Chofu Station next door is only 1.2 km away and has plenty of commercial facilities, so there are few large stores around this station.

03Heads-up

Healthcare ranks 375th out of 395 neighborhoods, the weakest ranking for this neighborhood. Everyday shopping only ranks 369th. Keio Line Special Express and Express trains normally don't stop at this station.

04A bit of history

When this station opened in 1916, it was called Tamagawara, used to transport sand and gravel from the Tamagawa. In 1927, the amusement park Keiokaku opened, and crowds of visitors poured into the station.

After the war, in 1949, part of the Keiokaku land was sold and rebuilt into the velodrome. In 1971, the Sagamihara Line was extended across the Tamagawa, and this station changed from a terminus into a through station.

Keio Floral Garden Ange, next to the station (formerly Keio Hyakkaen), closed in 2021. The former garden site is now a development site for Keio Corporation.

05What's coming

Keio Corporation is carrying out land readjustment on about 2.8 hectares including the former garden site, with the project scheduled to run through fiscal year 2028. One of the buildings, a 10-story rental housing block, broke ground in May 2025 and is expected to open around July 2027.

This building's 1F will have a supermarket and a nursery, while 2F and 3F will house a Chofu City welfare center and medical facilities. Another building, with 264 units for sale, broke ground in August 2025 and is expected to begin move-ins in late January 2028.

How are these measured?

Compared against the Tokyo neighborhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
