Hillside residential streets, cherry trees lining both banks of the Onda River, a blossom festival in spring
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
Minami-Naruse is almost entirely hills, with very little flat land. The Onda River flows along the north side of the residential area; the stretch from Takase Bridge to the Tokyo-Kanagawa border has cherry trees lining both banks. Downstream of Tsurukawa Kaido, both banks also have a pedestrian and bicycle path set up by Machida City, and in spring a cherry blossom festival is held centered around the Naruse-chuo Bridge area.
The station itself is built on a slope, with the station building below the platform: from the north exit it looks like an elevated station, but from the south exit it looks like an underground station. The Naruse-Minami Land Readjustment Project covered nearly 100 hectares, carried out in the 1970s by redrawing plots and straightening roads. South of the station, Narusegaoka and Minami-Naruse are divided by the Yokohama Line, and the ground here sits slightly higher than in Minami-Naruse to the north and east.
From our street photos, greenery ranks 42nd among Tokyo's 395 neighborhoods, the best of the seven categories in this neighborhood. Cleanliness ranks 132nd and sidewalks rank 78th, both also near the top. Naruse 1-, 2- and 8-chome, Nishinaruse and Ogawa 3-chome have no street photos yet and are not counted in these rankings.
Minami-Naruse 5-chome has the Machida City General Gymnasium, about a 9-minute walk from the north exit. ASV Pescadola Machida, a team in Japan's top futsal league, the F.League, plays its home games here.
The Rapid service on the Yokohama Line doesn't stop at Naruse — you can only take the Local. Transit ranks 320th among 395 neighborhoods, the weakest of the seven categories. There are a few supermarkets around the station, but daily shopping only ranks 359th, and healthcare also ranks 353rd.
The place name Naruse comes from the residence here of Naruse Shirotaro, of the medieval warrior band Yokoyama-to. In 1889, Naruse village merged with four neighboring villages to form Minami village, which was then absorbed into Machida town in 1954.
The Naruse-Minami Land Readjustment Project was established in 1972, and the land exchange was completed in June 1979. Naruse Station opened in April of that same year, and Minami-Naruse 1-chome through 7-chome were newly established in June.
The "Minami" (south) here refers to the southern part of the old Naruse village, whose original center was along Naruse Kaido. Narusegaoka, south of the station, was only newly established as a town name in 1986.
Minami-Naruse Elementary School and Minami Daini Elementary School merged into "Naruse Elementary School" in the 2025 school year; until the new school building is ready, the old Minami-Naruse Elementary School building is being used, with prefabricated classrooms added. The new school building is being built on the former site of Minami Daini Elementary School, and Machida City plans to start using it from the 2028 school year (Japan's school year begins in April).

Hospitals with inpatient beds (2020 data), public elementary and junior high schools whose catchment covers this area, high schools and universities within 1 km, stations, parks of 1 ha or more, and large shopping malls and department stores. Many Tokyo junior high students attend private schools, so junior high catchments are only a guide.
Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.
How to read it: yellow = poor, blue = good; grey = not enough data
TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. Street environment scores use AI assessments of imagery; convenience scores use public facility data.
