A new district on old industrial land — new buildings, wide roads, not many residents yet
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
The area around Zhonghua 5th Road used to be part of Kaohsiung's industrial belt—before Dream Mall opened, this was mostly old factory buildings and empty lots. Dream Mall opened in 2007, with the Kaohsiung Eye Ferris Wheel installed on the rooftop, reaching a height of 102.5 meters. Nowadays the buildings are new and the roads are wide, but not many people actually live here—only about 72 people per hectare, roughly 30% of the median li in Qianzhen District. Shidai Boulevard in front of Dream Mall has four lanes, and it takes at least ten minutes to walk east to Zhongshan Road. On Zhongshan Road, the MRT Kaisyuan Station and the light rail Cianjhen Star Station are about 150 meters apart.
After the old factories were replaced with new buildings, based on street view photos, the architecture here ranks 2nd among Kaohsiung's 13 neighborhoods. The Red Line's Shihjia Station, Kaisyuan Station, and the light rail's Cianjhen Star Station are all within the neighborhood, so getting around isn't hard. North of Shihjia Station is Labor Park, which has a flower market on weekends. You don't even need to leave the neighborhood to catch a movie—there's a cinema on the 8th and 9th floors of Dream Mall. Not far outside the neighborhood to the east is Kaisyuan Night Market. For kids heading to junior high, Xingbang Village, where Dream Mall is located, falls within the Shihjia Junior High School district.
For everyday shopping, this neighborhood ranks last among the 13—supermarkets usually require a bit of a walk or a bike ride. Medical care also ranks 13th, so clinics aren't right at your doorstep either. North of Shidai Boulevard is still a land readjustment zone, a logistics park, and the No. 5 Canal, with very few homes. To the west, across Chenggong 2nd Road, is the area around Kaohsiung Port, the Export Processing Zone, and Kaohsiung Exhibition Center.
Dream Mall opened on June 7, 2007. In March 2008, the MRT Red Line opened, and Kaisyuan and Shihjia stations began operation. In October 2015, the first phase of the circular light rail ran from Lizihnei to Kaisyuan Jhonghua, with Cianjhen Star Station located on this stretch.
Compared with the 13 Kaohsiung neighborhoods in this guide (scores 0–10)
Hospitals with inpatient beds (2020 data), public elementary and junior high schools whose catchment covers this area, high schools and universities within 1 km, stations, parks of 1 ha or more, and large shopping malls and department stores. Many Tokyo junior high students attend private schools, so junior high catchments are only a guide.
Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. Street environment scores use AI assessments of imagery; convenience scores use public facility data.
