01First impressions

Xinpu Station is on Wenhua Road. Step out of Exits 1 to 3 on the west side and you're right in the Xinpu Market and Chihlee University of Technology area—shoppers heading to market and students heading to class come out of the very same station. By day it's market and campus, but at night the scene shifts to the lively Yumin Street Night Market, which is also inside the neighborhood.

02What works

Public transit here ranks 4th among New Taipei's 100 neighborhoods, since you've got two MRT lines to choose from. The Bannan Line gets you to Banqiao Station in just one stop, making transfers to the THSR or TRA quick and easy. From Exit 5, walk about 250 meters along the sidewalk outside the station and you can reach Xinpu Minsheng Station on the Circular Line; that station sits on the other side of Minsheng Road, putting it about 50 meters outside the neighborhood. Daily convenience ranks 2nd—for groceries, just head to Xinpu Market right outside the west-side exit.

03Heads-up

Medical care ranks 2nd, near the top among New Taipei's 100 neighborhoods; but going by street view photos, building quality ranks 86th, toward the lower end. Wenhua Road Section 1 is Provincial Highway 3, a major access route, so if you're living along it, factor in the traffic noise. The Yumin Street Night Market draws big crowds in the evening, so if you live in the alleys next to it, things get livelier after dark.

04A bit of history

The name Xinpu goes back to the Qing Dynasty, when it was Xinpu Zhuang under Baijie Bao. According to the genealogy records of the Lai clan of Xinpu in Banqiao, members of the Lai Tianjing family crossed the strait from Pinghe County in Zhangzhou to cultivate this area in 1721. In 1920, Xinpu Zhuang was reorganized as Xinpu Oaza, administered under Banqiao Zhuang. In 1965, Chihlee Business College was founded here—known today as Chihlee University of Technology. Starting the following year, industrial zones were established one after another in places like Sibiantou, Xinpu Shenqiu, and Puqian, and Banqiao's population grew rapidly as a result. When the Bannan Line opened in August 2000, Xinpu Station was the terminus, and the line wasn't extended to Fuzhong until 2006. When the Circular Line opened in 2020, Xinpu Minsheng Station was added right next door.

How are these measured?

Compared against the New Taipei neighborhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
