A 53-hectare university campus next to the National Library of Public Information and Zhongxiao Night Market
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
The heart of this neighborhood is National Chung Hsing University: the main campus covers 53 hectares, with more than 15,000 students enrolled (2023). Heading north in the evening, just outside the neighborhood you'll find Zhongxiao Night Market, known specifically for food—mostly snack stalls and restaurants, with most vendors not opening until 4 p.m.. Heading northwest to Wuquan South Road, the National Library of Public Information (NLPI) has an exterior clad in white mosaic tiles, its shape inspired by the Möbius strip.
In 2014 the NLPI was featured in "1001 Libraries to See Before You Die," an online project by the IFLA Public Libraries Section—it's right here in the neighborhood, an easy walk for borrowing books or studying. Beyond the campus, the neighborhood also has community parks like Jishan Park and Yonghe Park, and its greenery ranks 4th among Taichung's 47 neighborhoods. The streets are clean too—it ranks 7th for street-view cleanliness, also near the top.
There's no rail station within the neighborhood—the closest is Wuquan Station (TRA), about 250 meters outside it, and public transit here ranks 25th. Daily shopping ranks 34th, toward the lower end among the 47 neighborhoods.
Back in the late Qing Dynasty's Guangxu era, Dingqiaozi in this area was the most populous settlement in Lanxing Bao and home to its busiest marketplace, as well as a key route connecting Changhua to Taichung. The Hanxi River flows through the Nanmen area, which sits low-lying—locals had a saying: "When Nanmen flooded, the water would rise to your belly button at the train station". In October 1943, the Agricultural and Forestry Vocational School, founded in 1919, relocated here—this is the current campus site. In 1961, the then-Taiwan Provincial College of Agriculture merged with the Taipei-based Provincial College of Law and Business to form Provincial Chung Hsing University, renamed National Chung Hsing University in 1971. In 1983, the main gate moved from Guoguang Road to Xingda Road. The NLPI's predecessor was the Taichung Prefectural Library, established in 1923; the new building on Wuquan South Road opened in June 2012.

Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. Street environment scores use AI assessments of imagery; convenience scores use public facility data.
