01First impressions

The old core of this neighborhood is Shuzaijiao, which today corresponds to Shuyi and Shude Villages, where most residents are descendants of the Lin family clan. At the end of 2025, Shuyi Village had 15,423 residents, making it the most populous village in South District. Right next to the residential area is Daqing Station, where TRA and the MRT Green Line connect, and the MRT station name even carries the suffix "Chung Shan Medical University". Walk about 500 meters along Jianguo North Road and you'll reach Chung Shan Medical University and its affiliated hospital's Daqing Campus. Across from the station is the Chung Shan Medical University commercial area, lined with chain restaurants.

02What works

For public transit, this neighborhood ranks 12th among Taichung's 47 neighborhoods—from the same station you can catch TRA trains or take the Green Line to Beitun or HSR Taichung Station. The affiliated hospital is a medical center-level facility, so you don't have to travel far for serious medical care. For schooling there's Shude Elementary School and Shuyi Elementary School, and for a stroll you can head to Shuzaijiao Park, Shuyi Park, or Daqing Park. Housing quality ranks 12th, putting it near the top among the 47 neighborhoods.

03Heads-up

Even though there are plenty of restaurants in front of the station, everyday shopping ranks only 43rd, so grocery options are fairly limited. Although the affiliated hospital is right in the neighborhood, overall healthcare access ranks only 20th, putting it in the middle among the 47 neighborhoods. The well-known Daqing Night Market is actually outside the neighborhood in Chonglun Village, and Taichung Industrial High School is outside it too. The southern half of Shuyi Village runs along the Lyuchuan River and borders Wuri, where housing is sparser.

04A bit of history

Shuzaijiao is an old settlement in Taichung, and its original extent corresponds to today's Shuyi and Shude Villages. Fanpo also belongs to Shuzaijiao, and the "Shude Ju" house there is over a hundred years old. In 1960, dentist Zhou Ruchuan founded Chung Shan Dental College, which was upgraded step by step over the years and became Chung Shan Medical University in 2001. Its affiliated hospital was established in 1966. TRA's Daqing Station opened in 1998, built under the policy of making TRA function more like an MRT system. In April 2021, the MRT Green Line opened, turning Daqing into a transfer station between TRA and the MRT.

How are these measured?

Compared against the Taichung neighborhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
