The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
China Medical University's Yingcai Campus sits on Xueshi Road, and the campus together with its affiliated hospital forms the center of this neighborhood. For meals and everyday shopping, people rely on the Xueshi Road commercial area, which runs roughly along Xueshi Road, Jianxing Road, and Yongxing Street. Across the street from the hospital is Zhongzheng Park, and on the side of the park nearest Chongde Road sits the North District Civil Sports Center. Heading west into the lanes, you'll find row after row of homes, with the green belt of Shangde Park and Yude Greenway tucked in between. The neighborhood stretches east from Zhongqing Road Section 1 all the way to the area around Beitun Road and Sanmin Road Section 3, taking in six villages, all in North District. North District is home to about 21,000 people per square kilometer.
For everyday shopping, this neighborhood ranks 1st out of 47 neighborhoods in Taichung, and 2nd for healthcare, so you don't have to go far for groceries or a doctor. The affiliated hospital sits on the southern edge of the neighborhood, and part of the hospital grounds is already considered part of the neighboring Yizhong neighborhood. If you want to exercise, head to the Civil Sports Center, which has an international-standard competition pool. Sidewalks rank 10th, so getting around on foot is not bad. For kids' schooling, the neighborhood has Shengsan Elementary School.
There's no MRT station within the neighborhood; the nearest, Wenxin Chongde Station on the Green Line, is about 580 meters from the edge of the neighborhood, with Sihwei Elementary School Station about 690 meters away; public transit ranks 28th. This area's old name was Qiucuozi, once a large settlement of the Qiu family; after fires and military turmoil, the Qiu family gradually moved away, and the Lai family moved in, but the place name stuck. The Lai family's settlement was called Laicuobu, where they grew sugarcane and ran a small sugar mill, covering what is now the area around Laicuo, Laicun, and Zhongda villages. Baojue Temple, on Jianxing Road in Jinlong Village, was founded in 1928, with its Maitreya Buddha statue completed at the end of 1975. In 1958, because the Ministry of Education hadn't established a school of Chinese medicine, several practitioners of Chinese medicine founded China Medical College on their own. Zhongzheng Park, across from the hospital, was completed in 1977, and the affiliated hospital opened in November 1980. The college was upgraded to university status in 2003. The sports center in the park was originally the Zhongzheng Swimming Pool and tennis courts, rebuilt and reopened in October 2017. In 2020, the new Shuinan campus was completed and the main campus moved there, so the Xueshi Road site is now known as the Yingcai Campus.
