The old Litoudian street of Wanhe Temple, the morning market and old shops
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
Nantun Old Street isn't long, about 200 meters end to end, right at the triangular block where Wanhe Road meets Nantun Road. The street still has a tofu shop, a blacksmith, a seed shop, a rice flour shop, and a Chinese medicine shop. Wanhe Temple sits on Wanhe Road Section 1, with Nantun Market and Nantun Wenchang Temple both close by. Nantun Elementary School, the morning market, and the Nantun Jute Shoot Culture Hall are all packed into these same few streets.
For everyday shopping, this neighborhood ranks 4th out of 47 in Taichung — the Nantun morning market sits right by the temple, so you don't have to go far to pick up groceries. Nantun's soil and water suit jute, and soup made from its young shoots (ma'ai) is a taste of summer in central Taiwan — there's a Nantun Jute Shoot Culture Hall on the old street. Further south, the southern half of Yongding Village is a newer community built through self-organized land readjustment covering the Yongchun and Xinba areas, and it falls under the same Nantun Elementary School district as the old street.
Public transit ranks 23rd — Nantun MRT Station is about 580 meters outside the neighborhood, on the border between the 8th Redevelopment Zone and the 5th Redevelopment Zone (Dadun). Greenery ranks 24th, with big parks like Nantun Park and Wenxin Forest Park both outside the neighborhood. Every Dragon Boat Festival, the old street holds its traditional wooden clog event, so the street gets livelier than usual that day.
Nantun used to be called Litoudian: people came to farm the area during the Kangxi era, and during the Yongzheng and Qianlong eras, farm tool makers clustered together here, turning the street into a hub for trading agricultural goods. Wanhe Temple was funded jointly by twelve surnamed families living in Litoudian and built starting in 1726, completed the following year, and was designated a third-grade historic monument in 1985. Nantun Wenchang Temple was built in 1797, and when Litoudian Public School was founded in 1898, classes were first held there — that school is today's Nantun Elementary School. After the 1920 administrative reform, the area became the Nantun oaza under Nantun Village. In the Dragon Boat Festival custom of wearing clogs to wake the pangolin, people stomp in wooden clogs to rouse the legendary pangolin; it was registered as a Taichung City folk cultural asset in 2008.

Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.
How to read it: yellow = poor, blue = good; grey = not enough data
TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. Street environment scores use AI assessments of imagery; convenience scores use public facility data.
