Local guide

01First impressions

The Examination Yuan complex, the Shih Hsin University campus, and the southern slope of Xianjiyan take up a good share of this neighborhood; homes cluster along Shiyuan Road, Muzha Road Section 1, and the lanes off Hexing Road. Follow the lanes south to the end and you reach the Jingmei River, where Muzha Riverside Park, on the river side of the levee, is shaded by big trees that form a short green tunnel. At night, the footpath and the sculptural pavilions along the top of the levee suit an unhurried walk, and the riverside route upstream is easy going by bike or on foot.

02What works

Right next to the riverside park is the Hexing Waterfront Social Housing. With Xianjiyan at its back, this neighborhood ranks 29th for greenery among Taipei's 73 neighborhoods. The Examination Yuan and Shih Hsin University both sit along Muzha Road Section 1, with the National Examination Center beside the Examination Yuan; for groceries there's Guangming Market, and the local elementary school is Yongjian Elementary School.

03Heads-up

The neighborhood's northern boundary is the ridgeline of Xianjiyan — lanes on the hill side climb as you head up. There's no MRT here; the nearest stations, Jingmei and Dapinglin, both sit outside the neighborhood, so public transport only ranks 67th. Healthcare access isn't great either, coming in at 64th.

04A bit of history

The Examination Yuan moved to Taipei with the government at the end of 1949, first setting up office at the Taipei Confucius Temple before relocating in 1951 to Gouzikou, then part of Muzha Township — the site it still occupies today. Shih Hsin University's predecessor was the World Vocational School of Journalism, founded by Cheng She-wo in 1956, which went on to become a junior college and then a college before becoming Shih Hsin University in 1997.

05What's coming

The southern section of the Circular Line will have a Y04 station on the east side of the Muzha Road Section 1 and Shiyuan Road intersection, right within this neighborhood. After the station, the line turns south past the National Examination Center and crosses the Jingmei River. According to the Taipei Department of Rapid Transit Systems' August 2026 update, the projected completion year is 2031, and the actual opening will only be announced once the preliminary and final inspections have been passed.

How are these measured?

Compared against the Taipei neighborhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
