Banqiao's old town centre, ringed by Lin Family Mansion and Garden, cram schools, and Nanya Night Market
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
The area around Fuzhong Station is Banqiao's old town center—with cram school after cram school lining the streets, you'll notice more young people and students out and about than elsewhere. The street names here still carry traces of the Qing-dynasty walled city: Ximen Street, Beimen Street, and Nanmen Street are all named after the gates of the old Fangqiao City. Walk down Ximen Street to No. 9 and you'll find the gate to the Lin Family Mansion and Garden; the estate was modeled after Suzhou's Lingering Garden and is a nationally designated historic residence. If you're after street food at night, head to Nanya Night Market by Nanzigou Creek—about a 7-minute walk from Fuzhong Station.
For everyday shopping, this neighborhood ranks 3rd among New Taipei's 100 neighborhoods, and 4th for overall convenience—you can get everything you need right within the commercial district. If you're craving pastries, Nanmen Street is known as "Pastry Street," and it's just a short walk away. Getting around is easy too, since Fuzhong Station sits right in the neighborhood, making it simple to catch the Bannan Line to Taipei or Tucheng.
Nanya Night Market draws big crowds at night, so if you live on the streets around it, you'll need to get used to the buzz after dark. Along Guanqian West Road, there's still an uncovered stretch of Gongguan Creek, where you can see the black water in the channel as you pass. For high-speed rail or Taiwan Railways, you'll need to walk about 500 meters outside the neighborhood to Banqiao Station.
Banqiao's old name was Fangqiao—back in the day, a wooden plank bridge was built over Gongguan Creek, and the area became known as Fangqiaotou; the name was later changed to Banqiao during the Japanese colonial era. In 1851, brothers Lin Guohua and Lin Guofang began building the Lin family mansion here, moving in when it was completed in 1853—this is what's now known as the Lin Family Mansion and Garden. Following that, Zhangzhou gentry and settlers, led by the Lin family, pooled funds to build Fangqiao City as protection against clashes between Zhangzhou and Quanzhou factions; it was completed in 1855. The city walls were torn down long ago, but since 2007, paving tiles reading "Old City Boundary" have been placed at intervals along the sidewalks to mark where the walls once stood. In 1947, the Taipei County Government moved to Banqiao, and the commercial district grew up around the old Banqiao Station.
A public urban renewal project on Fuzhong Section Lot 472 sits on Wenhua Road Section 1, along the neighborhood's eastern edge, facing Banqiao Elementary School and Banqiao Senior High School. The project plan was approved in February 2024, broke ground that November, and the city government expects it to be completed by 2028, with one 26-story building and one 7-story building planned.

Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.
How to read it: yellow = poor, blue = good; grey = not enough data
TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. Street environment scores use AI assessments of imagery; convenience scores use public facility data.
