Next to Feng Chia Night Market, with an elementary school, an evening market and a park tucked away in the lanes
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
In the evening, lines start forming on Fuxing Road and Wenhua Road, the two pedestrian streets at the heart of Feng Chia Night Market. In 2024 it drew 6.11 million visitors, ranking fourth among Taichung's 28 major tourist and recreation spots. By day the pace changes: the neighborhood has three elementary schools—Xitun, Shangshi, and Shang'an—plus Zhishan Junior High School. Southwest of Xitun Elementary School there's an evening market, while Fuxing Park and the Xitun Branch of Taichung Public Library are tucked among the residential lanes. Walk north to the end, right against the neighborhood's border, and you'll find Feng Chia University, which is what the night market grew up around.
For everyday shopping, this neighborhood ranks 10th among Taichung's 47 neighborhoods—step outside for dinner and you're right at the night market, and the evening market covers everyday groceries. Sidewalks rank 17th, making it easy to walk kids to school or over to Feng Chia Park.
Greenery ranks 40th—there are parks, but not much large green space. The night market draws big crowds both in the evenings and on weekends, so if you live near Fuxing Road or Wenhua Road, you'll need to get used to foot traffic right outside your door when you come home from work. There's no MRT station within the neighborhood; the nearest one, Wenxin Yinghua on the Green Line, is about 370 meters outside the boundary.
On Xi'an Street next to the night market stands the Zhang-Liao Family Temple, first proposed by the Zhang-Liao family in 1886, though construction didn't begin until 1909 and wasn't fully completed until 1916. It was designated a historic monument in 1985 and is now a municipal monument. Before Feng Chia College of Engineering and Business moved to Xitun in 1963, this area was a suburb of military dependents' villages. The school was founded in 1961 to honor Qiu Fengjia, and was originally called Feng Chia College of Engineering and Business. As students followed the school here, trade on Wenhua Road grew with them: first the Wenhua Road Night Market, and only later Feng Chia Night Market.
The MRT Blue Line will run along Taiwan Boulevard, and Section 3 of Taiwan Boulevard marks the southern border of this neighborhood. The Blue Line was approved by the Executive Yuan in January 2024, and its groundbreaking ceremony was held in June 2025. The city government's report originally listed a completion date of 2034, but in July 2026 the MRT Engineering Bureau told the city council that the overall schedule would be pushed back by 2 to 2.5 years.

Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.
