Primary to high school close to home, in a residential area where Hougang Park sits by the Keelung River
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
This neighborhood is a residential area wrapped by the Keelung River on its west and south sides, with Shezi across the water; to the east it reaches Chengde Road Section 4. The eastern end of Bailing Bridge sits in Hougang Village, and once you cross the bridge you're in Shezi. Hougang Park is also within the neighborhood, and the Keelung River is just nearby, so you don't need to go far for a riverside walk. School is even closer for children, with Bailing Elementary School, Jiantan Elementary School, and Yangming High School all within the neighborhood.
The most practical advantage here is how the schools are clustered: you can go from elementary school all the way through high school without leaving the neighborhood. To reach Shezi on the other side of the river, just cross Bailing Bridge. Home, school, park, and riverside are all within walking distance, so daily life can be lived close to home.
This area has no name of its own in the property market; listings are usually labelled Hougang Street, Bailing, or Chengde Road Section 4, so you'll want to try a few different search terms. There's no MRT station within the neighborhood yet, and public transport ranks 64th, so commuting usually means first getting a connection east to Shilin Station or Jiantan Station. Sidewalks also rank 64th, so watch your step when walking around.
Hougangqian was originally a settlement on Shezi Island. In 1946, the area was designated Hougang Village. In 1965, the Keelung River was straightened, and Hougangqian was placed on the eastern bank of the river, separating it from Shezi Island from then on. Bailing Bridge, completed the same year, was named to commemorate the centennial of Sun Yat-sen's birth. Bailing Elementary School was originally called Hougang Elementary School when it was founded in 1970, and was renamed to its current name in 1974 because of its proximity to Bailing Bridge. Between 1973 and 1981, the villages of Fuzhong, Qiangang, Fuhua and Bailing were split off from Hougang Village one after another. A 1977 newspaper recorded that the riverbed area under Bailing Bridge was at the time a multi-purpose sports field, busiest between five and seven in the morning, with people practising tai chi and others out running.
Y25 Station on the Circular Line's Northern Section will be built underground between the Zhongzheng Road/Shishang Road intersection and the Jihe Road intersection, with construction starting in March 2025. The station's western end touches the northeast corner of this neighborhood, though most of it falls within the neighbouring Shilin-Jiantan neighborhood. The MRT Bureau announced in August 2026 that the expected completion year is 2031; after completion, preliminary and final inspections still need to take place before an opening date is announced.

Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.
