An old settlement squeezed between the Tamsui and Keelung rivers, with a Guanyin temple tucked in the main street's lanes

Shezi sits between the Tamsui River to the west and the Keelung River to the east. Daily life revolves around the main street, Yanping North Road Sections 5 and 6, and Shezi Market and Shezheng Park are both inside the neighborhood. In a lane off the main street, at Lane 285, Yanping North Road Section 5, is Hulu Temple; the current building was completed in 1955, and its main deity is Guanyin. Further north, past the boundary of Fu'an Village, is Shezi Island, which is not part of this neighborhood.
Shezi Elementary School, Hulu Elementary School and Shezi Park are all inside the neighborhood, so children don't have to leave the area for school. The village boundaries run all the way to the river, taking in the riverside land beyond the embankment, so there is somewhere to walk. Bailing Bridge is one of the main crossings to Shilin on the other bank, and across it lies a different set of streets.
The neighborhood has no MRT station at present, ranks last among Taipei's 73 neighborhoods for public transport, and second from the bottom for everyday convenience. With rivers on two sides, getting in and out usually means crossing a bridge, so allow extra time for the commute.
The name Shezi comes from the old settlement of Shezai, originally a settlement of the Mashaoweng community of the Ketagalan people. Shezi Elementary School grew out of Shezai Public School, founded in 1913. In 1965 the first straightening of the Keelung River moved Hougangqian, which had belonged to Shezi, to the east bank of the river. Bailing Bridge, completed the same year, was built to span the new channel, and its name marks the centenary of Sun Yat-sen's birth.
Station Y24 on the northern section of the Circular Line is being built under Shezheng Park and the car park beside it; work began in March 2024. In August 2026 the Department of Rapid Transit Systems put the scheduled completion year at 2031, and once complete the line must still pass preliminary and final inspections before an opening date is announced.

Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.
How to read it: yellow = poor, blue = good; grey = not enough data
TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. Street environment scores use AI assessments of imagery; convenience scores use public facility data.
