01First impressions

Wuri Station's building was put up in 1970, and its wave-shaped canopy makes it easy to spot. The station is actually located in Huri Village — that's the original name for Wuri, which wasn't changed to Wuri until 1904. These days it only serves local trains; walk about 300 meters along Pingdeng Road and you'll reach Wuri MRT Station next to Wuri Elementary School — both stations are in this neighborhood. The streets around the station are Wuri's old town: the district office is on Xinxing Road, Wuri Elementary School is on Zhongshan Road, and there's also a public retail market in the neighborhood. Heading north, Wuri Brewery was originally a sugar mill, and Guanghua Street beside it was turned into a beer-themed tourist street in 2008.

02What works

Transportation is this neighborhood's biggest asset: out of Taichung's 47 neighborhoods, it ranks 1st for public transit and 8th for everyday convenience. Both the TRA station and the MRT station are within the neighborhood, and it's just one stop on the Green Line to HSR Taichung Station. The district office is right there at No. 316 Xinxing Road, so you don't have to travel far to get things done. All of Wuri Village and Huri Village fall within the Wuri Elementary School zone, with the school itself located on Zhongshan Road inside the neighborhood.

03Heads-up

In street-view photos, this neighborhood ranks 46th out of Taichung's 47 neighborhoods for architecture and 41st for greenery. It's right next to the HSR Special District to the north, but that district is counted as a separate neighborhood; this one only covers the old market area east of the Fazi River, so be sure to check which side you're looking at when house-hunting.

04A bit of history

Wuri was originally called Huri, and it wasn't renamed to its current name until 1904. Wuri Station opened in May 1905. In 1920, Wuri Zhuang was established, and its office was originally set up in Huri; later, as space ran short, it moved to No. 126 Sanmin Street in Wuri Village. Around the same time, the Wuri Police Official Post was built at No. 110 Sanmin Street; it was registered as a historic building in 2013, and restoration work was completed in August 2020. The current station building was completed in 1970. In September 1978, the township office moved into a new building at No. 316 Xinxing Road. In 1981, with heavy freight traffic from beer and CPC petroleum products, Wuri Station was upgraded to a second-class station; after Xinwuri Station opened in 2006, it became a simple station managed by Xinwuri.

How are these measured?

Compared against the Taichung neighborhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
